Tom Eure first started doing leatherwork while traveling with three friends from Richmond, Va. to Philadelphia, Pa. by horse drawn covered wagon in 1971. After this three month odyssey he returned to Richmond and opened his first leather shop in the back room of a friends barber shop. In 1977, at a private showing of a friends paintings, he met his wife of thirty years plus, Kathy Kaylor, an art student with an extensive background in crafts. The two immediately started to collaborate on the design and production of what was to become their life's work.
In 1978, they decided to move to the mountains of West Virginia, where they raised their daughter Jessica. There they continued to develop their line of handbags, belts and leather accessories and sold their work at juried craft shows all over the east coast for more than a quarter of a century.
The opportunity to open Atlantis Leather at the Greenbrier came in the spring of 1995, and they didn't hesitate, even though they lived two hours away. Since that time they have put together a group of top American leather artists to complement their own classic designs. Now entering their eighteenth year in the artist's colony, they continue to find new and exciting work for their shop.
